Overview
Registered in 2008 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Cadillac', 'Prestige and Promise' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its wide, golden yellow leaf margins that contrast with a dark green center. The broadly ovate leaves, measuring 7 inches long and 5 inches wide, are lightly corrugated with a dull surface above and below, and feature 10 to 11 vein pairs. This wide-margin mutation has been noted in trials for reduced susceptibility to leaf burn compared to its parent.
In the Garden
'Prestige and Promise' forms a dense, slow-growing mound reaching 16 inches in height and 20 inches in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold margins remain stable without scorching. The plant pairs well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its muted foliage tones.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during dry periods and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. While less prone to burning, the leaves may still show damage in intense afternoon sun; slug and deer control is advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
