H. ‘President's Choice’

Overview

Registered in 1983 by S. Moldovan, this giant hosta is a hybrid of *H. sieboldiana* and is distinguished by its large, heavily textured blue-green leaves with ruffled margins. The cultivar 'President's Choice' forms a substantial mound reaching 32 inches (81.3 cm) in height and 60 inches (152.4 cm) in diameter, with individual leaves measuring 14 inches (35.6 cm) long by 12 inches (30.5 cm) wide.

In the Garden

'President's Choice' performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage retains its color and resists scorching. Its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen plant or as a background element in shaded borders, where it pairs well with ferns, *Astilbe*, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The plant is not suited for container cultivation due to its giant mature dimensions.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, requiring protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent. It is hardy in typical hosta-growing zones.
