Overview
Registered in 2009, 'Prairie Dazzler' is a medium-sized hosta cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Gold Regal' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Blue Vision' (pollen parent). Its distinctive foliage combines blue-green leaves with golden yellow margins, the leaf surfaces bearing a glaucous bloom on both sides.
In the Garden
'Prairie Dazzler' forms a semi-upright clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 33 inches (83.8 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. The broadly ovate leaves, each 7 inches (17.8 cm) long and 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide, feature 10 to 11 vein pairs, a cordate base, and moderate corrugation. This cultivar performs well in partial to dappled shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and pairs effectively with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during establishment and growing season; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Prairie Dazzler' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in garden settings.
