Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek, 'Platinum Nugget' is a sport of *Hosta* 'Golden Nugget' distinguished by its markedly lighter yellow leaf margins. The broadly ovate, blue-green leaves feature light yellow, slightly rippled margins, a dull upper surface, and a glaucous bloom beneath, forming a dense mound 18 inches (45.7 cm) tall and 43 inches (109.2 cm) in diameter.
In the Garden
This medium-sized hosta performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green centers and pale yellow margins maintain contrast. Mature clumps reach approximately 3.5 feet across, making it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shade gardens. It pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its muted coloration.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during establishment and throughout dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
