Overview

Registered in 2009 by M. Plater-Zyberk, *Hosta* 'Pike's Peak' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with golden yellow margins. The elliptic leaves, measuring 5 inches (12.7 cm) in length and 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) in width, feature slightly rippled margins and a tapered base, with 5 to 6 pairs of veins. The plant forms an upright mound reaching 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 27 inches (68.6 cm) in diameter.

In the Garden

'Pike's Peak' performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and reaches a mature spread of just over 2 feet (68.6 cm) with a compact height of 10 inches (25.4 cm). Its small size and upright habit make it suitable for the front of shaded borders, rock gardens, or as an edging plant. It pairs well with other small hostas, ferns, or shade-tolerant perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*, and is well-suited for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Pike's Peak' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
