Overview
Registered in 1992, *Hosta* 'PeeDee Laughing River' is a small-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Neat Splash' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Iron Gate Glamour' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its medium grey-green leaves with pure white, streaked, rippled margins measuring 0.25 to 0.5 inches (0.6 to 1.3 cm) wide.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a compact mound 8 inches (20.3 cm) tall and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with leaves 7 inches (17.8 cm) long and 3 inches (7.6 cm) wide bearing 6 to 7 vein pairs. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its small size makes it well suited for rock gardens, woodland edges, or the front of shaded borders. The white-margined foliage provides contrast when paired with darker-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*, and the plant is suitable for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protection from slugs and deer may be necessary in garden settings.
