Overview
Registered in 2004, *Hosta* 'Pearl Necklace' is a small, mound-forming cultivar derived from *Hosta* 'Color Fantasy' (pod parent; pollen parent unknown). It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with gold margins and unstable yellow streaking, combined with a glaucous bloom on the leaf undersides and a notably late bloom season.
In the Garden
This slow-growing hosta reaches approximately 11 inches (28.6 cm) in diameter and 7.5 inches (19.1 cm) in height, forming a compact mound suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or woodland edges. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with other small perennials such as ferns or heucheras. Its small size also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Pearl Necklace' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
