Overview

Registered in 2002, 'Peanut' is a small hosta cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its heavily corrugated, deeply pebbled leaf surface combined with bright variegation: creamy white margins framing a medium green center streaked with darker green.

In the Garden

'Peanut' reaches 5 inches (12.7 cm) in height and 9 inches (22.9 cm) in diameter, forming a compact, mound-like clump with moderate growth rate. Its small size and textured foliage make it well-suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders; it also performs well in containers. Like most hostas, it thrives in partial to full shade and benefits from rich, well-drained soil.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage the foliage, so monitor accordingly in typical hosta-growing zones.
