Overview
Registered in 2010, Hosta 'Outrageous Dragon' is a large hybrid resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Outrageous' and *H.* 'Chinese Dragon Supreme', with *H.* 'Blue Belly' as the pollen parent. This cultivar is visually distinctive for its upright, broad mound of dark green leaves with streaked greenish-white to creamy-white, slightly rippled margins, combined with a lightly folded and corrugated leaf surface.
In the Garden
With a mature spread of 48 inches (121.9 cm) and height of 25 inches (63.5 cm), 'Outrageous Dragon' is well-suited to partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. Its large, upright form makes it an effective specimen or accent plant in woodland borders and shade gardens, where its variegated foliage provides contrast against darker-leaved companions such as ferns or *Heuchera*. Due to its substantial size, it is not recommended for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer deterrents may be necessary, as both pests are attracted to hosta foliage.
