Overview
Registered in 1990 by Paul Ruh, 'Ototo San' is a small hosta cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its dark green leaves with white margins and slight undulations, forming a compact mound.
In the Garden
This small hosta reaches a mature height of approximately 5 inches (12.7 cm) and a spread of 13 inches (33.0 cm), making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with other small shade perennials such as heucheras or ferns. Its compact size also makes it an excellent choice for troughs or small pots.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges; standard slug and deer precautions are recommended for this cultivar.
