Overview

Registered in 2009 by Japanese originator T. Shimizu, 'Oshima Silk' is a medium-sized variegated seedling of *Hosta pycnophylla* obtained from Japan in 2006. It is visually distinguished by its blue-green leaves with pure white, slightly rippled margins, a dull upper surface, and a glaucous bloom beneath.

In the Garden

'Oshima Silk' forms a slow-growing, mound-like clump reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 25 inches (63.5 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its blue-green and white foliage.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor and manage as needed.
