Hosta ‘On the Border’ is a registered cultivar () .

Year registered2007
Section classIII-4b

Overview

Registered in 2007, this medium-sized hosta cultivar resulted from a cross between *Hosta* 'Neat Splash' (seed parent) and *Hosta* 'Blue Wedgwood' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its medium green, ovate leaves with a pure white margin approximately 0.5 inches (1.3 cm) wide, a feature that extends down the petiole. The leaf surface is very shiny on both sides, and the foliage remains attractive well into October.

In the Garden

Mature plants form a mound-shaped clump reaching 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter and 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. The scapes rise 20 to 22 inches (50.8 to 55.9 cm) above the foliage and are green in color. This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas. Its medium size and tidy mound make it suitable for the front to middle of shaded borders or as an accent among other shade perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or epimediums.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate control measures.
