Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Pathfinder' registered in 2005, 'Olympic Glacier' is a small hosta distinguished by its dark green leaves edged with irregular, pure white margins that frequently exhibit green speckling. The leaf blades reach 6 inches (15.2 cm) in length and 4 inches (10.2 cm) in width, with the white margin varying from 0.25 to 1 inch (0.6 to 2.5 cm) wide.
In the Garden
'Olympic Glacier' performs best in partial to full shade, where its white margins remain most stable and less prone to scorching. At maturity, this small cultivar forms a compact clump suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It pairs well with fine-textured shade companions such as ferns, *Heuchera*, or small sedges, and its restrained size makes it an excellent choice for trough gardens or shaded patio pots.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Like most hostas, 'Olympic Glacier' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor regularly and apply appropriate controls if needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
