Overview

Registered in 1999, *Hosta* 'Northern Heritage' is a large hybrid derived from a cross between *H*. 'Color Fantasy' and *H*. 'Big Daddy'. The cultivar is distinguished by its blue-green foliage with medium green streaked margins, both surfaces bearing a glaucous bloom, and its cordate leaf bases.

In the Garden

'Northern Heritage' forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching approximately 23 inches (58.4 cm) in diameter and 11 inches (27.9 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and is suitable for shaded borders, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in mixed perennial beds. Its large, textured leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer deterrent measures are recommended, as the foliage is susceptible to both pests.
