Overview

Registered in 1996 from unknown parentage, 'Nonsuch' is a giant blue-green hosta distinguished by its substantial upright habit and large, heavily textured leaves. The cultivar produces broad, cordate-based foliage reaching 20 inches in length with a waxy blue-green surface and paler underside, supported by grayish-white scapes.

In the Garden

' Nonsuch' reaches a mature spread of 60 inches (152.4 cm) and height of 31 inches (78.7 cm), making it suitable as a specimen plant or bold accent in the middle to back of shaded borders. Its moderate growth rate and upright form allow pairing with finer-textured companions such as ferns, *Heuchera*, or *Tiarella* in partial to full shade. The large leaves create effective ground cover in woodland settings.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during establishment, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Nonsuch' may require protection from slugs and deer in typical hosta-growing zones.
