Overview

Registered in 2011, *Hosta* 'Neutrino' originated in Japan as an unnamed seedling of *Hosta venusta*. This miniature cultivar forms a small, dense mound of medium green leaves with creamy white margins, reaching 5 inches (12.7 cm) in height and 16 inches (40.6 cm) in diameter.

In the Garden

'Neutrino' performs best in partial shade to dappled light, typical of most hostas. Its compact size—a mound of ovate leaves 2.75 inches (7.0 cm) long and 1.75 inches (4.4 cm) wide—makes it well suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. The moderate growth rate and small stature also recommend it for container cultivation. Companion plants might include small ferns or miniature woodland perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Like many hostas, 'Neutrino' may be susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing in typical hosta-growing zones.
