Overview
Registered in 1992, 'Mount Hope' is a medium-sized hosta cultivar of unknown parentage, distinguished by its blue-green leaves with broad, medium yellow margins. The leaves are cordate at the base, measure 8 inches (20.3 cm) long by 6 inches (15.2 cm) wide, and bear a heavy glaucous bloom on the undersides, with 11 pairs of veins.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a dense clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, suitable for mid-border positions in partial to full shade. The gold margins brighten under dappled light, while the blue-green centers hold color best in cooler conditions. It pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials of similar stature.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain leaf turgor and margin color. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as shoots emerge. Like most hostas, 'Mount Hope' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
