Overview

Registered in 2002 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Moonlight Sonata', 'Moonlight Mirage' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with subtle, light green rippled margins. The broadly ovate leaves, measuring 8 inches (20.3 cm) long and 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide, feature a dull upper surface and a glaucous bloom beneath, with nine vein pairs and a cordate base.

'Moonlight Mirage' forms a clump 33 inches (83.8 cm) in diameter and 19 inches (48.3 cm) in height, making it suitable for mid-border positions in partial to full shade. Its moderate leaf waviness and subtle variegation pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its restrained coloration. The cultivar's medium stature allows it to function as a filler or specimen in shaded beds.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Moonlight Mirage' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
