Overview
Registered in 2000 by A. Malloy, this giant hosta is a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Sea Monster'. It forms a substantial mound of blue-green foliage, with leaves measuring 11 inches (27.9 cm) in both length and width, featuring medium blue-green margins, a dull surface on both sides, and a cordate base.
In the Garden
With a mature spread of 38 inches (96.5 cm) and height of 29 inches (73.7 cm), 'Monster Babe' is suited to the middle or back of a shaded border. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones. Its substantial blue-green leaves provide strong textural contrast when paired with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Slugs may damage the foliage, and deer will browse the leaves if accessible.
