Overview
Registered in 1999 by N. Simes, this small-sized sport of *Hosta* 'Gloriosa' is distinguished by its dark green leaves with narrow white margins measuring approximately 0.06in (0.2cm) wide. The foliage displays a slightly shiny upper surface and dull underside, with leaves reaching 7in (17.8cm) in length and 4in (10.2cm) in width, featuring 8 to 9 pairs of veins and rounded bases.
In the Garden
'Hosta' 'Miss Maddie' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 14in (35.6cm) in height and 18in (45.7cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and is well-suited for rock gardens, container plantings, or the front of shaded borders. Its small stature and restrained variegation make it an effective companion for fine-textured ferns, *Heuchera*, or other small hostas.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. As with most hostas, protection from slugs and deer may be necessary, particularly in shaded, moist conditions.
