Overview
Registered in 1999, 'Ming Treasure' is a large sport distinguished by its very shiny, light green leaves with narrow, yellow margins. The cordate leaf base and pronounced sheen on both surfaces give this cultivar a polished, reflective appearance uncommon among gold-margined hostas.
In the Garden
This mound-forming hosta reaches 25 inches (63.5 cm) in height and spreads to 57 inches (144.8 cm) in diameter, making it suitable as a specimen or background plant in partial to full shade. Its substantial leaf size and glossy texture pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other broad-leaved perennials. The 18- to 34-inch (45.7–86.4 cm) scapes bear lavender flowers in midsummer.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs may damage the glossy foliage, particularly in damp conditions; deer occasionally browse the leaves.
