Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek of the American Hosta Society, 'Marvelous Millie' is a large blue-green hosta of unknown parentage. Its most distinctive features are the intensely blue-green leaf margins and heavy glaucous bloom on both leaf surfaces, which give the foliage a powdery, muted appearance.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a substantial mound approximately 20 to 25 inches (51 to 64 cm) tall and 36 to 48 inches (91 to 122 cm) wide at maturity. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green coloration is most pronounced. The large, broadly ovate to nearly round leaves with cordate bases and light cupping make it a strong specimen plant for woodland gardens or shaded borders; it pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, 'Marvelous Millie' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; regular monitoring and appropriate barriers are recommended in areas where these pests are prevalent.
