Overview
Registered in 2014, *Hosta* 'Marlu's Ronald Wayne' is an open-pollinated seedling of *H. 'Sagae'* that forms a dense, dome-shaped clump. Its distinguishing features are ovate, moderately folded leaves with green centers and flat greenish-yellow margins, borne on a medium-sized, fast-growing mound.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature spread of approximately 34 inches (86.4 cm) and a height of 15 inches (38.1 cm), creating a neat, rounded mound suitable for mid-border positions. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the gold margins hold their color without scorching, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials. Its compact, dome-like habit also makes it a candidate for container culture in typical hosta-growing zones.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; protective measures may be required in areas where these pests are prevalent.
