Overview

Registered in 2014 by B. & D. Stegeman, this miniature hosta is a cross between *H. 'Little Wonder'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Elvis Lives'* (pollen parent). The cultivar is distinguished by its narrow, lance-shaped leaves with green centers and heavily rippled, greenish-yellow margins, a combination that gives the foliage a bright, textured appearance atypical for a plant of its small stature.

In the Garden

With a mature spread of 15 inches (38.1 cm) and a height of only 5 inches (12.7 cm), 'Marlu's Evelyn Lucile' forms a dense, mound-like clump suitable for the front of a border, rock gardens, or trough plantings. It performs best in partial to light shade and, due to its miniature size, is an excellent candidate for container culture. Pair with fine-textured shade groundcovers such as *Sedum ternatum* or small ferns to complement its narrow, wavy leaves.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially in containers. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and protect as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
