H. ‘Lucy's Crinkles’

Overview

Registered in 1991 by P. Banyai, this large hosta is a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Crispula'. Its most distinctive feature is the variegated foliage, with dull dark green margins surrounding a lighter center, and the leaf surface is notably crinkled or corrugated, giving the cultivar its common name.

In the Garden

Reaching a mature spread of 30 inches (76.2 cm) and a height of 20 inches (50.8 cm), 'Lucy's Crinkles' is best suited to partial to full shade, as is typical for most hostas. Its large, textured leaves make it an effective specimen or accent plant in shaded borders and woodland gardens. It pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage the foliage; monitor and manage as needed.
