Overview

Registered in 1980 by P. Aden, this large cultivar resulted from a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Fascination'. 'Love Joy' is distinguished by its variegated foliage, featuring streaked margins on leaves that measure 16 inches (40.6 cm) in length and 7 inches (17.8 cm) in width, with six pairs of veins.

In the Garden

'Love Joy' forms a substantial clump reaching 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in height, with scapes rising to 40 inches (101.6 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for variegated hostas, and is well-suited to woodland borders or shaded perennial beds. Its large size makes it appropriate as a specimen plant or in the middle to back of a mixed border, where it pairs effectively with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, protection from slugs and deer may be necessary in garden settings.
