Overview
Registered in 2001, *Hosta* 'Love Bug' is a miniature cultivar of unknown parentage, the pod parent being a streaked selection of *H.* 'Eleanor Lachman'. It is visually distinctive for its small, flat, broadly ovate leaves with light green margins and a slightly shiny surface, forming a compact mound.
In the Garden
'Love Bug' reaches a mature size of 5 inches (12.7 cm) in height and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate and a mound-like habit. It is well-suited to partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and its diminutive stature makes it an excellent choice for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Companion plants might include small ferns or *Heuchera* cultivars, and its compact size also suits container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage the foliage, so monitoring and appropriate controls are advisable.
