Overview
Registered in 1996 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Little Aurora', 'Little Sunspot' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its medium gold leaves with medium green, flat margins. The leaves measure 3 inches long and 2 inches wide, with 13 to 15 pairs of veins, a rounded base, and a dull upper surface with a waxy underside. The gold center and green border create a compact, mound-like plant reaching 5 inches in height and 12 inches in diameter, with a moderate growth rate.
In the Garden
'Little Sunspot' performs best in partial to dappled shade, as its gold leaf centers may scorch in full sun. Its small, mound-like habit—12 inches wide and 5 inches tall—makes it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Companion plants include other small hostas, ferns, or shade-tolerant perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
