Overview
Registered in 2010 by R. Kuenster, this miniature hosta is distinguished by its narrow, lance-shaped leaves with white streaking and flat white margins. The foliage, measuring 4 inches (10.2 cm) long and 0.75 inches (1.9 cm) wide, displays 2 to 4 vein pairs and a slightly shiny upper surface with a dull underside.
In the Garden
'Little Jill' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 5 inches (12.7 cm) in height and 14 inches (35.6 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and is well-suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders due to its miniature size. Companion plants include small ferns, heucheras, or other miniature hostas. Its small stature makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or repellents.
