Overview
Registered in 2008 by W. Lefever, this large hosta cultivar is distinguished by its unusual variegation pattern: a blue-green leaf center bordered by wide, heavily rippled greenish-yellow margins. The pod parent is *H*. 'Galaxy'; the pollen parent is unknown.
In the Garden
'Hosta' 'Lime Smoothie' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height and 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-green hostas, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade perennials. Its large size makes it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border; it is not recommended for containers due to its mature spread.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer deterrent measures are advisable, as the broad, glaucous leaves are attractive to both pests.
