Overview

Registered in 2011, 'Lemon Ice' is a small hosta derived from a *Hosta clausa* normalis F2 seedling as pod parent and *H. 'Strawberry Banana Smoothie'* as pollen parent. Its distinctive appearance combines green leaves with yellow margins, red petioles, and red scapes that retain yellow coloration in shaded conditions.

This cultivar forms a mound 12 inches (30.5 cm) tall and 26 inches (66.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and its small size makes it suitable for rock gardens, woodland borders, or container plantings. Companion plants such as ferns, heucheras, or small shade-tolerant perennials complement its compact habit.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges; slug and deer damage may occur and should be monitored.
