Overview
Registered in 2010 by R. Kuenster of the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Lederhosen' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green, ovate leaves with cordate bases, very shiny upper surfaces, and moderately folded, lightly wavy margins; the plant forms a floppy, mound-like clump of notably thick substance.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature diameter of 32 inches (81.3 cm) and a height of 10.5 inches (26.7 cm), with scapes rising 25 to 29 inches (63.5 to 73.7 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-green hostas, and its moderate growth rate makes it suitable for mixed shade borders or woodland gardens. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials; its medium size and floppy habit also suit it for container culture.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
