Overview

Registered in 2012, 'Leapin' Lizard' is a small hosta cultivar of unknown parentage (open-pollinated). It is visually distinctive for its elliptic leaves with medium green, slightly rippled margins, a moderately corrugated surface, and a very shiny finish on both leaf surfaces.

In the Garden

This small hosta forms a mound 18 inches (45.7 cm) tall and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and is well-suited to the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture due to its compact size. Companion plants include small ferns, heucheras, or other miniature hostas that complement its glossy foliage.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Leapin' Lizard' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed in the garden.
