Overview

Registered in 1991 by D. Heinz, this miniature cultivar is a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Saishu Jima'. It forms a compact mound of narrow, lance-shaped green leaves with medium yellow, undulated margins, producing a distinctly bicolored appearance.

In the Garden

'Hosta 'Lauren' reaches a mature size of 6 inches (15.2 cm) in height and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, with leaves measuring 3 inches (7.6 cm) long and 0.75 inches (1.9 cm) wide, bearing only two vein pairs. Its small stature makes it well suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border, where it pairs effectively with other miniature hostas or fine-textured woodland perennials. It performs best in partial to full shade and is an excellent candidate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may feed on the foliage, though the small leaf size can make damage less conspicuous than on larger hostas.
