Overview
Registered in 1996 by an unknown breeder, this miniature hosta cultivar resulted from crossing *Hosta* 'Kabitan' (pod parent) with *Hosta* '9-14-7' (pollen parent). Its most distinctive features are the heavily rippled margins on medium green leaves with a very shiny upper surface, combined with an upright, fast-growing habit.
In the Garden
With a mature diameter of 11 inches (27.9 cm) and height of 8 inches (20.3 cm), 'Lakeside Twiddle Dee' is well-suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or troughs. Its upright growth and compact size make it an excellent candidate for container cultivation. The bright green scapes, reaching 15 to 24 inches (38.1 to 61.0 cm) in height, rise above the foliage. Companion plants should be similarly small-scale, such as miniature ferns or small sedges, and the plant performs best in partial shade with consistent moisture.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in containers, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most hostas, this miniature is susceptible to slug and deer damage, though its small size may make protective measures easier to implement.
