Overview
Registered in 2002 by Lakeside Acres, *Hosta* 'Lakeside Sassy Sally' is a large, fast-growing cultivar derived from a cross between *Hosta* 'Lakeside San Kao' and an unnamed seedling. It is visually distinguished by its broadly ovate, green leaves with golden yellow, slightly rippled margins, a moderately wavy leaf surface, and a compact, mound-like habit.
In the Garden
'Lakeside Sassy Sally' forms a dense mound reaching approximately 9 inches (22.9 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, with scapes rising 11 to 13 inches (27.9 to 33.0 cm) above the foliage. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where its gold margins remain most vibrant, and is well-suited to the middle or front of a shaded border. Its moderate size and fast growth make it effective as a groundcover or in mass plantings, and it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
