Hosta ‘Lakeside San Kao’ is a registered cultivar () .

Year registered1995
Section classII-1

Overview

Registered in 1995, this large hosta cultivar was developed from a cross between a Lakeside seedling (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Piedmont Gold' (pollen parent). It forms a dense, mound-like clump distinguished by its broad green leaves with greenish white, slightly rippled margins and a cordate leaf base.

In the Garden

Reaching approximately 46 inches (117 cm) in diameter and 8.5 inches (22 cm) in height, this cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas. Its moderate growth rate and substantial leaf size make it suitable as a specimen plant or for use in mixed shade borders, where its variegated foliage provides contrast against darker-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or deterrents.
