Overview
Registered in 2006, this giant blue-green hosta was developed from an F1 seedling parent. It is visually distinctive for its very shiny, broadly ovate leaves with a glaucous bloom on the undersides, medium green slightly rippled margins, and an upright, substantial habit reaching 66 inches (167.6 cm) in diameter and 28 inches (71.1 cm) in height.
In the Garden
With its giant stature and moderate growth rate, 'Lakeside Khum Kaw' is best sited as a specimen or focal point in part to full shade, where its large, glossy leaves can be appreciated. Its upright form and substantial dimensions suit it for the back of a border or as a groundcover in larger woodland gardens. It pairs well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its blue-green foliage.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain leaf turgor and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. As with most large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through typical cultural or barrier methods.
