Overview

Registered in 2005, this giant cultivar produces a substantial clump of blue-green leaves with wide, yellow margins. The foliage is ovate with cordate bases, lightly folded, and exhibits a glaucous bloom on the undersides.

With a mature spread of 62 inches (157.5 cm) and height of 42 inches (106.7 cm), 'Lakeside Fancy Pants' is best suited to a position in partial to full shade, as typical for blue-leaved hostas. Its upright, moderate growth habit makes it an effective specimen or background plant in shaded borders and woodland gardens. Pair with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its large, blue-gold foliage.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods to maintain leaf turgor and prevent margin browning. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
