Overview
Registered in 2002 by an unknown breeder, 'Lakeside Expo' is a medium-sized hosta distinguished by its nearly round, blue-green leaves with greenish-yellow flat margins. The foliage is dull on the upper surface with a glaucous bloom beneath, lightly cupped and moderately corrugated, with 13 vein pairs.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms an upright clump reaching 13 inches (33.0 cm) in height and 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-green hostas, where the leaf color remains truest. Its medium size and rounded leaves make it suitable for mid-border positions or as a groundcover beneath deciduous trees, paired with ferns or astilbes.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so monitoring and protective measures may be necessary in affected gardens. Scapes rise 15 to 18 inches (38.1 to 45.7 cm) above the foliage.
