Overview

Registered in 2003 by an unknown hybridizer, *Hosta* 'Lakeside Cricket' is a miniature cultivar derived from *Hosta* 'Lakeside Knickknack' (pod parent) with an unknown pollen parent. The plant is distinguished by its small, ovate leaves with pure white centers and narrow golden yellow margins, borne on a compact, upright mound.

In the Garden

'Lakeside Cricket' reaches a mature size of approximately 3 inches (7.6 cm) in diameter and 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) in height, making it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border. It performs best in partial to full shade with consistent moisture, and its diminutive stature pairs well with other miniature hostas, small ferns, or creeping shade perennials. The plant's small size and moderate growth rate also make it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide regular water during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Lakeside Cricket' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, and the small leaves may require protection in typical hosta-growing zones.
