Overview
Registered in 2016, *Hosta* 'Lady Christin May' is a miniature variegated cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Sum of All' and *H.* 'Carol'. Its most distinctive characteristic is the emergence of white leaves in spring that gradually transition to light green by mid-summer, with flat, light green margins and a lance-shaped leaf form.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 10 inches (25.4 cm) in both height and diameter, with individual leaves measuring 3 inches (7.6 cm) long and 1.25 inches (3.2 cm) wide. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for hostas, and its small stature makes it well-suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. The petite size and neat habit also recommend it for container cultivation. Companion plants might include small ferns, heucheras, or miniature sedges that share similar moisture and light requirements.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture and well-drained soil; apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage, particularly during the tender white emergence phase in spring. The scape reaches 16 to 20 inches (40.6 to 50.8 cm) and bears petite, purple-striped flowers in summer.
