Overview
Registered in 1999, *Hosta* 'Kiwi Waves' is a selfed seedling of *H.* 'Sagae', selected for its intensely blue-green, heavily rippled leaf margins and large mound form. The cultivar is visually distinctive for its cordate leaves with a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, combined with a fast growth rate that produces a substantial clump.
In the Garden
'Kiwi Waves' reaches a mature spread of approximately 25 inches (64 cm) and a height of 19 inches (48 cm), forming a dense, mound-like habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage retains its glaucous cast, and is well-suited to border plantings or as a specimen in typical hosta-growing zones. Its large size and fast growth make it a suitable companion for ferns, heucheras, or other shade perennials that contrast with its broad, rippled leaves.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as both pests may damage the foliage.
