Registered in 1999, *Hosta* 'Kiwi Gold Star' is a small sport of the popular cultivar *Hosta* 'June'. It is visually distinctive for its green leaf centers edged with golden yellow margins, a color pattern that reverses the typical gold-centered, green-margined appearance of its parent.

In the Garden

This small hosta forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the golden margins remain brightest. Its modest size makes it well suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings, and it pairs effectively with other small shade perennials such as ferns or heucheras.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from slugs and deer, which may damage the foliage.
