Overview
Registered in 2013 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Empress Wu', 'Kingsize' is a giant, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its exceptionally large, broadly ovate leaves with dark green margins, a slightly shiny surface, and a lightly corrugated texture. The leaves lack wax, contributing to their satiny appearance, and the plant forms an upright mound reaching up to 104 inches (264.2 cm) in diameter and 46.5 inches (118.1 cm) in height.
In the Garden
'Kingsize' performs best in partial to full shade, where its substantial foliage can develop without scorching. At maturity, it forms a massive clump suitable as a specimen or focal point in large borders, woodland gardens, or alongside water features. Its size precludes container cultivation and demands ample space; companion plants should be shade-tolerant perennials of contrasting scale, such as ferns or *Astilbe*.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth resumes. The thick leaves show moderate slug resistance, though deer may browse young foliage; standard protective measures are advisable in areas with high deer pressure.
