Overview

Registered in 2015 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Loyalist', 'Kerry Man' is a giant blue-green cultivar distinguished by its large, upright leaves with a glaucous bloom on both surfaces and slightly rippled margins. The broadly ovate leaves, reaching 14.25 inches long and 12 inches wide with 11 to 13 vein pairs, emerge from a plant that grows 34 inches tall and spreads 18 inches in diameter.

In the Garden

'Kerry Man' performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage maintains its color and glaucous coating. With a fast growth rate and mature dimensions of approximately 3 feet tall and 1.5 feet wide, this upright giant suits the middle to back of shaded borders or as a specimen plant. Its large, bold leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade perennials that contrast in texture and form.

Care Notes

Water regularly to keep soil evenly moist, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, 'Kerry Man' is susceptible to slug and deer damage and benefits from protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
