Overview

Registered in 1994, 'Julia Gaede' is a large sport distinguished by its green leaves with gold margins and a yellow-green streaked appearance. The cultivar forms a substantial, mound-like clump with very shiny leaf surfaces and cordate leaf bases.

In the Garden

'Julia Gaede' reaches a mature spread of approximately 35 inches (88.9 cm) and a height of 24 inches (61.0 cm), making it suitable for mid-border or specimen placement in partial to full shade. Its large, glossy leaves provide strong textural contrast when paired with finer-textured ferns or shade-tolerant perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Astilbe*.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or repellents in typical hosta-growing zones.
