Overview
Registered in 2005, this miniature hosta cultivar forms compact mounds of small, wavy leaves with light green margins and darker centers. Its foliage is broadly ovate with cordate bases, measuring 2.3 inches (5.8 cm) long by 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide, with six to seven vein pairs and a dull texture on both surfaces. The scapes reach 20 to 22 inches (50.8 to 55.9 cm) in height and bear green flowers.
In the Garden
'Himiny Cricket' reaches 6 inches (15.2 cm) in height and spreads to 17 inches (43.2 cm) in diameter, forming a low, mound-like habit with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for hostas, and is well suited to rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Its small size makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation. Companion plants might include other miniature hostas, small ferns, or shade-tolerant groundcovers such as *Tiarella* or *Heucherella*.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage and may require protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
