Overview

Registered in 2005 by P. & J. Ruh, this medium-sized hosta is a sport of *Hosta* 'String Bikini'. It is visually distinctive for its chartreuse greenish-yellow leaf centers with wide, intense dark green margins, the edge of which appears nearly black.

In the Garden

'Hosta 'Jean Ferris Ruh' forms an upright, moderate-growing clump reaching 17 inches (43.2 cm) in height and 29 inches (73.7 cm) in diameter. Its ovate, lightly folded leaves with rounded bases and flat margins perform best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas. The dull green and gold foliage pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials; its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges. This cultivar shows typical hosta susceptibility to slugs and deer, requiring protection in areas where these pests are prevalent.
