Overview
Registered in 2002 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Silver Lance', 'Jason' is a miniature cultivar distinguished by its lance-shaped leaves of medium green with unstable creamy white streaking and narrow, slightly rippled white margins. The foliage measures approximately 4 inches (10.2 cm) long and 1.38 inches (3.5 cm) wide, with four vein pairs and a slightly shiny surface on both sides.
In the Garden
This compact hosta forms a mound 8 inches (20.3 cm) tall and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the variegation remains most stable. The small size makes it well suited for troughs, containers, or the front of a shaded border, where it can be paired with other miniature hostas or fine-textured shade perennials such as *Tiarella* or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitor regularly and employ control measures if necessary. Typical hosta-growing zones are appropriate.
